Day 3: Cesky Krumlov and the Egon Schiele Art Center - 4 June

A Monday in Cesky Krumlov will find you scratching your head as to what to do as most attractions like the Krumlov Castle, and many small businesses, are closed. It was rainy and miserable to boot. What to do?

Thankfully, the Egon Schiele Art Center was open so this seemed like the logical choice. This contemporary art center exhibits works of 20th century Czech artists while the top floor features a permanent collection of the Viennese artist, Egon Schiele.

A friend and understudy of Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele’s mother was born in Cesky Krumlov, hence his attachment to the town. Returning there to live with his girlfriend, he was inspired by this Renaissance town and it architectural jewels, its winding streets and interlocking old houses. Run out of town by the hostile locals for drawing nude adolescent girls, he regularly returned for short stays in various guest houses. He died at the youthful age of 28.
