30 July, 2012. Sydney, Australia - As millions of travelers descend on London in time for the Olympic Games, many will wait for the hype to die down before visiting London. Just in time for the Olympics, Explore My World Travel have launched a book on where the locals hang out, eat and shop.

As millions of travelers descend on London in time for the Olympic Games, many will wait for the hype to die down before visiting London. In time for the Olympics, Explore My World Travel have launched a book on where the locals hang out, eat and shop, avoiding all the tourist traps.

Author Victoria Ugarte draws on the best of local knowledge and her bi-yearly travels to London with the fashion industry in her book ‘A Foodie & Fashionista’s Guide To London’. Written in a relaxed and irreverent manner, and brimming with practical information from shop-happy and food-savvy locals, the reader doesn’t only get the low down on London’s climate, what to pack, getting around on public transport, and the iconic sites. It also includes a comprehensive list of stylish accommodation that doesn’t cost a king’s ransom, the golden rules of sensible eating and shopping in London, the best day trips, and the local’s picks of the best places to eat and shop in London,  borough by borough.

Victoria provides some last minute tips on restaurants to avoid:

- Stay away from restaurants that are close to major tourist attractions. Prices inevitably become inflated, and the quality of the food offered can be classed as mediocre at best. Londoners tend to avoid these establishments so give them a wide berth. Notorious areas for inflated menu prices are the streets around the British Museum, Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus.

- Likewise, avoid the pubs within the touristy areas of London. You’re better off sniffing out some of the excellent gastro pubs that are tucked away in the more obscure corners of London.

- Any menus available in multiple languages are a dead giveaway that you’ve landed in a tourist trap. Pick your bag up and walk straight back out again.

- Keep an eye out for restaurants or eateries that are filled with a local crowd. They’re patronizing the restaurant for a good reason. Chances are you will have stumbled on a gem.

Victoria says, “‘A Foodie & Fashionista’s Guide to London’ isn’t for everyone. It’s for those travelers that have a passion for good food and wine, a penchant for shopping, and an eagle eye for combining current and vintage fashion trends with the basics. The great thing is that it will have you armed and ready to make the most of London, whatever the season you choose to travel.”

‘A Foodie & Fashionista’s Guide To London’ is available on Amazon for Kindle and the Ipad for $2.99 and paperback for $14.95.
